- Fresh Face Essentials!

Today I thought I would round up a few products that I have been using a lot in recent months and been really enjoying. The theme seems to be my face for these.. I’ve been really liking trying new products and finding things that really work for me and my routine.

So first off is the Good Things Manuka Honey Refining Scrub. My goodness this product is absolutely divine! It’s like a luxurious exfoliation and every time I use it I feel like I am smearing oats and honey onto my face. It’s rich in texture and quite sticky in application, but it is so hydrating and the scrubby bits (oatmeal) gets rid of dead skin cells while injecting lovely moisture into your skin with the oils and honey that are in it. Sold? You should be!

This next product is a pricey one but I’m not getting any younger and anything that can help with the aging process and do a good job is a winner for me. This serum from Beauty Lab is lovely, I apply it after cleansing and it soaks in so quickly so that I can moisturise. I focus this in areas such as my forehead, brow line and around the eyes (not too close). Basically, where you would have botox injections. I don’t know if this is botox in a bottle exactly (I've never had the real this), but I have seen and felt differences, my skin feels great and looks more plump when I use this daily.

Bioderma! Everyone and their Mother has used this and I’m probably way late to the party! You know what though? I really like it! At first I didn’t see what the big deal was – I had heard and read so many positive reviews on this and I wasn’t sure why. I’ve come to realise its great though… I use it for my skin, to cleanse it. It removes makeup and leaves my face super fresh and clean feeling. It also works on eye makeup and I sometimes use it for that, but usually on days where I’m not wearing much (rarely). It felt a bit too much like hard work when I wear heavy makeup and an oil based remover does the job quicker.

Last but certainly not least, this little pot of joy from Lush! First off, it smells absolutely flippin’ divine! Like popcorn and all sorts of sweet yumminess. This is for face and body, I am yet to try it on my body though. I do love it for my face though, it has gentle exfoliant in it and it reveals fresh feeling skin that is softer than soft with a delicious scent that hangs around. You just take a small amount in your palm with a few drops of water to form a thick paste. I would tell everyone to try this. It is truly lush!

St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub.

I love exfoliating my face. There is no better feeling that scrubbing away the old cells and revealing soft, fresh skin. One of my favourties to exfoliate with had always been the St. Ives Apricot Scrub*, but I have to be honest and say that after seeing so may other products on the market, I stopped repurchasing this in favour of trying out new things.

Since last using this the packaging has changed quite a bit and I like the look now, it's more fresh and modern. There are also different scrubs for different types of skin. Mine is the invigorating fresh skin scrub and I have fallen in love with this product all over again!

It really does exfoliate deeply and leave me with skin that feel smooth and looks brighter, as well as instantly more radiant. It's also great for the body too, I love using it on my legs before I epilate or shave. Because it is quite a deep exfoliation I would recommend being gentle and not using this daily. I use it 2-3 times a week.

It smells great, exfoliates excellently and it is cheap. What more could you need? I think I am back on the St. Ives scrub bandwagon again!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation and Shimmer Touch.

I was completely sucked in by all of the hype surrounding the Rimmel 'Wake me up' foundation when it was released. Bloggers and you tubers were raving about this amazing product that gave a gorgeous, natural, dewy, fresh faced finish. I was a little unsure how it would work for me though, because I have oily skin and looking shiny happens naturally for me most of the time.

But when I spotted it on offer in Superdrug last Summer I knew it was a sign, so I picked a bottle up. I am the lightest shade, Ivory, and it's a pretty perfect match for my skin. I got this around the same time that I got my Real Techniques core collection brushes, so I used the foundation brush with this foundation for the first time and I was in heaven.

This foundation makes my skin look so flawless, so glowy and fresh and I don't look like a shiny ball of grease at all... It actually looks good and it has exceeded my expectations and now I am addicted! I still use a primer for oily skin under this and I powder my t-zone too (needed for me), but my skin still looks super fresh and doesn't get super oily, super quick.

A couple of bonuses about the foundation are that the packaging is awesome and has a lovely pump bottle and also the foundation actually smells really good!

So, fast forward a few months and I spot the instant radiance shimmer touch highlighters from the same range... Get this, in a pound shop! As you can imagine, I snapped those babies up. They are perfect for Summer to give a gorgeous glow.. I'd say they're a little too shimmery and pigmented for a highlight on my skin tone, but I like to dot the smallest amount on my cheeks for some added summer freshness and glow.

All I need to do now is try out the concealer.. Which I've heard good things about!  What are your foundation faves?

A Beauty Haul.

I don't often post hauls on my blog because it isn't THAT often that I go out and just buy make up . . because I already have so much, so only if a product really grabs my attention will I make sure I get my hands on it.

From the above, I was really wanting The Rocket mascara and the Brow Drama, the others just came along because Revlon had 3 for 2 in Boots and Maybelline had Buy 1 get 1 half price in Superdrug. It would've been rude not to take advantage of such offers!

I'll probably have individual reviews up on some of the products, sometime soon. As a quick over view though, I will say that I am enjoying all of my purchases! The blusher is a gorgeous colour and so blendable, the matte balm makes me want all of them, I love matte lips and it lasts so well. The concealer is amazing! I love colorstay foundation, so had an inkling the concealer would be great. The brow drama was something I wasn't sure of getting since I had read so many negative reviews on it, but it totally works for me and I am so glad that I have it, and I also love the rocket mascara!

Loving .. Eye of Horus Smokey Eye Pencil.

I love eyeliner. I love trying new eyeliners and comparing them to the current fave eyeliner that I am using, whatever that may be. It's like a never ending search for a perfect smudgy, black, long lasting, waterproof eye pencil that stays on the waterline.

This smokey eye pencil* by Eye of Horus (a brand which is new to me) is an excellent eyeliner choice. As you can see from the swatch above, it is the blackest of black, and to add to that, it smudges really well (with the smudger on the other end of the pencil), but you have to be quick because once it sets in place it ain't going anywhere for a while. This is very possibly the blackest liner I own and the one that lasts the best on my waterline. Up until now I've been trying out all sorts, which were good - but not quite as good as this one.

.. The smokey eye pencil from Eye of Horus is uniquely formulated with Jojoba Wax and Mango Oil, and is 100% waterproof, so it glides on without tearing and stays on without imprints on eye lids.

Perfect for day wear to accentuate eyes, or evening wear to get that sensual smokey look. Smudger on tip allows to define or smoulder as much as you like.

Due to the beautiful natural soft waxes and oils in the smokey eye pencil, a high grade cosmetic sharpener must be used to sharpen, clean and maintain the integrity of the pencil. Paraben free ..

So, I really like it, a lot. This brand is Australian, but it's available in a few online shops. If you do a Google search, you'll see. They're a little pricey, but judging by the quality of this liner, they're well worth it. This liner is available from Eye of Horus, or here here for £13.

Photo-a-Day ~ Day Eighteen ~ All About The Eyes, YSL.

I love luxury beauty brands, luxurious beauty products always feel like such a treat to use. I don't own too many if I'm honest but I'm slowly adding little pieces to my collection and I find I always feel that little bit more glam when I use them.

Recently I got this gift set* from Yves Saint Laurent at Harrods and I cannot fault any of the products. I had actually never tried anything from them before, but I had often read good things about their lipsticks, and the gorgeous gold packaging speaks for itself.

I really like that the set had two full sized products, the much raved about false lash effect mascara and touche eclat, and that it also contained a few minis to try out - the eye cream, makeup remover and black eye liner.

- The Mascara.. I am IN LOVE with this! I was wowed by the first coat, it's the blackest black, it gives so much length and volume to the lashes and is really buildable if you want a true false lash look. I liked that even after a couple of coats my lashes still feel like lashes and not crunchy or gross. It stays on too, no smudging or flaking, this is my go to at the moment and I've been telling everyone about it. It's like a must have.. It's the best mascara I've tried, and that is a bold claim.

- The Touche Eclat.. Ah, the famous touché éclat... Is it a concealer, is it a highlighter?! I did research this before I used it, I wanted to get it right. It's kind of both to me! It really does a wonderful job at brightening under the eyes, right in the inner corners which is my favourite way to use it. It is lovely on the tops of the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, brow bone and cupids bow too. I really like it and I get the hype. It's not shimmery, but it really does a good job of brightening and concealing subtly.

- The Eye Cream.. I want a full size of this now! I love trying out new eye creams to see if they make any difference to the look or texture when I apply makeup. This eye cream has a very light scent which I enjoy and it goes on silkily smooth and sinks in quickly, it instantly brightens, but what I love is that you can feel it - it has a soft soothing/cooling effect which I find really refreshes my under eyes. I'd love a full size of this.

- The Eye Makeup Remover.. This is a dual phase remover, you know the sort that you shake up and it mixes the oils together. It did a great job at removing my makeup and didn't irritate my eyes at all, but it didn't impress me enough that I'd want a full size, I'm quite happy with cheaper brands that do the trick as well.

- The Pencil Eye Liner.. I didn't know what to expect from this, an eye liner is an eye liner right? ... Well yes, but this is a really nice quality eye liner, it's super black, applies smoothly and stays put! It's waterproof but has more staying power than other waterproof liners that I love, and the pigment stayed, it didn't fade. This mini size is actually a really generous size too.

Summer fun on the road.

Who here loves a road trip? I really do! I love watching them in movies and I love going on them with my friends. I've not been on many in my time and I've always thought how fun they look in a movie and they travel across America in a convertible with the wind in their hair.

Mine have been slightly different, but equally as fun, it's what you make it, right?!

It's been a long while since I've been on one and when I used to go I'd be totally unprepared for it and just grab the things I needed without thinking about it.. Today it would be far  more hectic, I'd want to take along so many essentials  and probably a change of clothes. When I was a teen I didn't worry so much about things. Let's not forget snacks and things. It's funny how my friends and I would just go on a long drive to wherever and be totally unprepared for anything. But one thing we always had was fun.

Beauty Look Book: Purple and Gold Glamour | Melovemakeup.

I'm trying my best to post a FOTD every so often. As usual, I have a ton of them saved, but no products listed. I'm thinking of posting some anyway.

This look was a combination of purple and gold - I love how they compliment each other, so I thought I would try a glam, party type of look with the shades. You'll notice from my looks that they are mostly dramatic. I love that look most, I like lots of black so that a look stands out. But don't get me wrong, I do wear natural too, usually if I'm going to the shops or whatever.

– FM Cosmetics Products/Review.

Hey everyone! Today I have a post about a makeup brand that I recently tried out.

Now, being a blogger, I sometimes get sent products to try out and post about if I choose to… So when I got the email about this brand (FM Cosmetics), I was really excited, as I love to try new makeup, especially new brands! I had never even heard of this brand before, So I took a look at their catalogue and emailed back with a yes please!

So, a few days later I got rather large package from them with a lot of things to try out! I kid you not, they sent quite a few things for me to try, which I am so grateful for. I do think it’s important to test more than one or two products, as every brand and range have good and bad products.

I've spent the past month (maybe a little more), using them in my routine, trying them all about, and I wanted to mention a few of my faves..

The Second Skin Foundation is a very lightweight, light/mediun coverage, buildable foundation. I really love how it looks on the skin, and the glass pump bottle packaging for £12.99 is impressive.

The Shiny Nude Glossy Lipstick has such potential to be a popular product! It's such a nice shade, very natural without giving concealer lips, and the glossy finish means that it is hydrating and looks good on the lips. 

The Nail Lacquer and Extra Rich Lipstick in Hot Red. Wow, BAM! These are bright and sexy! Like a bright, in your face red, I love having the two match. The lipstick is so pigmented but such a perfect glamour red shade. The polish is great for any time, but I can't wait to put it on my toes for Summer.

I also love their Mineral Eyeshadow Trio in Chocolate Mousse. The little compact is cute, the pattern over the eyeshadow adds a nice touch, and the shadows have really good pay-off ad are great day to day shades. They're also very buildable for an intense look and they have a lovely satin finish.

I hope that gives you a bit of an idea. You'll see these popping up in some FOTD looks soon, I'm sure of it. I'd definitely recommend taking a look at their website. The prices are great and so is the quality. Link!

April / Spring 2013. 'Pearl Lowe' Glossybox.

This months GLOSSYBOX* is a Spring Special in collaboration with Pearl Lowe.

I have to say, this has been a favourite for me this month. The past couple or so (apart from March, which I didn't receive for some reason, I think my postman is a thief!) haven't impressed me as much, but this one has some lovely things in.

My two favourites are the Nip & Fab Body Butter (It smells amazing!) and the Essie polish, although it's a very sheer shade (Sugar Daddy) and I'd have rather had a brighter shade.  The Yves Rocher mini cream sample wasn't really needed in a box that already has a body butter either, but there you go. The Richard Ward hair product is said to revive hair and sounds kind of intriguing! Lastly there is a face mask from Balance Me... I have tried the eye cream from them (it came in a previous Glossybox) and I really enjoyed it, so I am excited to try this!

For the past few weeks I having been using these gorgeous Elemis products from the 6 piece Winter Skincare Set*. This is my first time trying anything from the brand, even though I have only heard good thinks about their products before, especially the skincare.

This contains three skincare products and three for the body and they come packaged inside a lovely dark purple satin cosmetics bag, which is a great size to use as a travel makeup bag.

I’ll start with the skincare first.

The Pro Radiance Cream Cleanser was so nice to use, it reminded me a lot of the famous cleanse and polish from Liz Earle (which I love), as the name suggests this is very rich and creamy and it blends nicely into the skin, melting away grime and makeup. It left my skin feeling so fresh, smooth and clean.

The Gentle Rose Exfoliator smells great; it has a subtle scent and very tiny exfoliating jojoba beads in, to remove dead skin from the face. It is gel based, which I actually prefer to cream Exfoliator for the face. This didn’t bother my skin at all, it left it feeling soft and plump and looking healthy.

The Pro Collagen Marine Cream is said to be one of the brands top selling face creams and I was really excited to try this, I am always on the lookout for a moisturiser that I’ll love. This has a nice texture and sinks into the skin quickly, it has a light scent to it, but it’s non offensive or irritating. I like it for night times where it can really do its anti-aging thing over night. I wake up with a smooth, fresh face.

Onto the body products.

These were all a delight to use and have a lovely herbal/natural scent to them that is very relaxing.

The Shower Cream lathers well and feels so nourishing on the skin, I love how the scent lingers afterwards too.

The Body Oil is gorgeous! Perfect for winter time and using to keep yourself smooth, this is totally non greasy and just makes everywhere feel so soft and hydrated! It is quite addicting to use, it feels so lovely.

The Relaxing Bath Elixr fills the bathroom with a delightful scent. I let my boyfriend use this, as I’m a shower girl, and he spends hours in the bath. He really does like it, a small amount created lots of bubbles that lasted for a good while. He said it left him feeling clean (haha!) and smelling good and he would happily use it again.

Orly Electronica - Preamp Nails.

Preamp nail polish* is one of the brand new shades from the Orly Electronica Collection. It is a beautiful cool pink shade that is packed with golden/copper toned shimmer that catches the light subtly. It looks way better in real life than I could capture on camera.

It is a little on the sheer side which I have found with most Orly I have tried thus far, I used three coats to get an opaque finish, but this wasn't much of a problem because it dries fast. Another plus is that is lasts for days, this wasn't even chipped by the time I wanted to paint my nails another colour (rare!).

Makeup Haul - Sleek Palette, Barry M, Etc...

I had a little splurge recently, I still had some Christmas money left over believe it or not! So I went into town and headed for Superdrug and Boots and came away with the above. There were a few things I had been seeing on youtube and other blogs and I wanted to try for myself.

♥ ♥ ♥

♥ Sleek Makeup Ultra Matte v2 Dark Palette: Love this! I am more of a matte shadow fan than overly shimmery, but mattes are notoriously less pigmented and harder to blend. That's not the case with this palette, they're pigmented (maye a little over powdery) and they blend really well. I'd like to get the brights version too!

♥ Barry M Kohl Pencil: I wanted a bright pink lip liner but then I saw the pink kohl pencil, it cost less and is good to be used on eyes or lips. It's smooth and creamy and a lovely lip colour all over the lips, or as a liner for your fave pink lipstick.

♥ No7 Vital Enlightening Highlight Powder: This was on clearance and caught my eye. It has a lovely 3d pattern on the top and is a perfect light shimmery (not glittery) highlighter that gives a gorgeous glow. I use sparingly though, it is super soft and pigmented.

♥ Barry M Nail Paint - Silvery Lilac: I saw this on the blogosphere and knew I needed it. I've only swatched it so far, but I love it. It's a shimmerly silver/lilac duochrome that will look stunning over a dark polish, though it can be worn alone too.

♥ Max Factor Nail Polish - Fantasy Fire: Another one that I saw on blogs and knew I had to have. I've only swatched it so far, but this is gorgeously unique, it has all kinds of multi coloured shimmer in it.. It is quite sheer but again, will be amazing over the top of a dark polish. Can't wait to paint my nails with this!

♥ Revlon Lip Butter - Candy Apple and Cotton Candy: I wanted to try these soooo badly, and I intended on picking atleast one of them up.. I couldn't just get one though! I love the balmy sheer lipstick texture that is buildable. Both of these colours are gorgeous.

♥ Collection 2000 Cream Puff Lip Cream - Fairy Cake and Cotton Candy: I had heard a little about these, but not too much. They had a deal on them though and these two colours stood out to me so I thought 'why not'. I am so glad I picked these up - stars of the day! They are gorgeous, they feel moisturising when you apply them, but then they set to a stain and don't budge. I think C2000 need to release more colours of these.. Other than these two there were a few nude shades. I want a red and a hot pink!

♥ Bourjois Chocolate Bronzer: I'm not much of a bronzer girl because of how pale I am, but I've seen a few youtubers raving about this and when I saw it I just had to get it. It's matte, so perfect for contour - this is the lightest shade and it's not that pigmented atall, which makes it perfect for a lighter bronzing effect for me, but it is buildable too.

L'Oreal L'Or Electric Collection.

The latest L'Oreal Collection*, L'Or Electric was recently released in time for the Cannes film Festival. I've been playing with the products for just over a week now and I love them. I love the bright 80's neon inspired shades that are so stand out! Definitely my kind of collection.

The L'Or Electric Collection Consists Of..

• Color Riche Nail Polishes in 811: Magic Croisette, 809: Mystic Blue and 810: Mythical Carpet.
• Color Riche Lipsticks in 402: Electric Fuchsia, 407: Metallic Coral and 404: Prismatic Pink.
• Coleur Infallible Shadows in 039: Magnetic Coral and 037: Metallic Lilac.

The Nail Polishes: These are all great pigmented shades that are opaque within two coats. They have the best wide applicator brush ever too (I definitely approve!) they apply smoothly, dry quick and are long lasting too. I will have some proper NOTD's soon.

The Lipsticks: I love the Fuchsia and Prismatic pink.. The coral one scares me slightly! The coral is also creamy and pigmented in texture, the other two are more sheer and wearable and have lots of blue shimmer in them (great for making teeth look white!) I love the packaging and how they feel - they are so hydrating.

The Shadows: Love, love, love these. I already own two of these pressed pigment type shadows. I love both of these colours. The coral is perfect and makes my blue eyes *pop* (hate that term!) and the grey shade is like a dark silver with a really pretty pink/lilac hue. Great for a smokey eye.

New CID i-glow - Sirocco.

The New Cid Cosmetics i-glow in Sirocco has been in my collection for a while, but neglected. Not neglected because I didn't like it, but because it is sooo beautiful.

Am I the only one that tries to savour beautiful products and not use them? I am realising how stupidly ridiculous it is, and I am not going to love and use everything as equally as I can.

They Say: These marbelised glow powders are the perfect 'pick me up' for the skin. Using our famous baked formulation for easy, silky smooth application, i - glow has light reflective pigments for mimicking your skins natural radiance. Some of the shades make really lovely blushers as well.

My Thoughts:  I think it almost speaks for itself. It looks natural and blends like a dream, there is no powdery chunky glitterness on my cheek, just a subtle highlight.. a pretty glow. I absolutely LOVE this product. It is a little on the pricy side at £24, but it will last for ages because of how big it is!

Some Beauty Skincare Favourites..

I pretty much constantly try new skincare products, but mostly tend to go back to some of my old favourites, so I thought I would do a post about some of my top must have skincare products today!

I'd be interested to know some of your must haves, so do let me know in the comments.

Vaseline Rosy Lips: This is my go to lipbalm! I use it daily, morning and night, and during the day if I need it. It smells lightly rosy, has a slight rose tint to it. It keeps my lips soft and hydrated.

Liz Earle Light Moisturiser: Definitely my favourite moisturiser. It is perfect for my oily skin. It's light, it sinks in quickly, it hydrates my skin, it smells lush and a little goes a long way. This is my number one moisturiser.

Avene Soothing Hydrating Serum*: I don't have sensitive, or overly dry skin (except for some patches), but I love using this. It's a recent addition and I'm really into serums at the moment. I like this because it's non scented and really hydrating. It brightens my skin and leaves it feeling lovely and smooth.

The Balm Vegan Lip Treatment*: I've had this for ages, it's the size of a powder compact, and is excellent! I use this when my lips really need some exfoliation. It has tiny particles in it that leave my lips feeling all plump and ready for the mattest of lipsticks. I couldn't be without it.

 

Garnier Spot Rollon: This is something I always repurchase. I don't have the best skin (atall!) and when I have a spot that decides to reside on my face, this stuff helps to take it down quicker, and instantly soothes it for me. Winner!

Skin Wisdom Beauty Balm: Ahh, my little Tesco treasure! This is said to be very similar to the Clarins Flash Balm (I think that's it's name) .. It's a balm that just brightens the comlexion and soothes the skin, leaving it feeling fresh and lovely. It really works!

Boots Botanics Eye Makeup Remover: There was so much hype on the blogosphere about this that I had to try it. That was a couple of years ago now, and many bottles later it is an absolute staple. It's an oil based remover that gets rid of everything, even the toughest mascara. A must have!

Natural High Brightening Eye Cream: I have been using this for years and swear by it. It was a random discovery in superdrug and is really inexpensive. I like it because it actually does brighten and you feel like it actually does something when you apply it. It feels cooling and really makes me look awake when I'm not atall.
